This tusk is from the 2014 season.

This tusk had the nerve inside the tusk which was very hard to clean out. We first tried spraying the inside of the tusk with a pressure hose which only detached a part of at near the base. Then we soaked it in various fluids in order to soften the nerve so we can pull it out. We used files to reach inside the tusk to pull out the nerve. It was very difficult because the tusk was long and narrow with not a lot of space to work inside.

This tusk is from the 1983 season. This is the thickest and heaviest tusk we have ever seen. It must have come from an exceptionally old whale. We classify this tusk as a #2 tusk because there are some cut marks on the tusk, located about 2 feet from the tip of the tusk.

After speaking to other suppliers, we think the "cut marks" are actually natural wear and tear on the tusk of an old whale.
